ATLANTA — The 1994 World Cup didn’t swing by Atlanta. Nine U.S. cities — New York, L.A., D.C., San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Orlando, Detroit — got games. We did not. It was no great loss. That World Cup set records for attendance, but the event itself stirs no fond memories. The f…

The Padres lost star right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. and left fielder Jurickson Profar to injuries, and committed four errors. Nick Cousins returns for the Florida Panthers in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final

Nick Cousins returned to the Florida Panthers lineup for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. Cousins had been a healthy scratch for the entire series against the Edmonton Oilers and had not played since early in the Eastern Conference final. Cousins played in 69 games during the regular season for Florida but has been in and out of the lineup during this playoff run. Coach Paul Maurice chalked that up to adding wingers Vladimir Tarasenko and Kyle Okposo at the trade deadline. The Panthers' forward depth has helped them get to the verge of the first title in franchise history.

Stuart Skinner making timely saves to help the Oilers claw back in the Stanley Cup Final

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner has been a steadying presence for his team trying to come back in the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers. Skinner stopped 81 of the 86 shots he faced in Games 4 and 5 after he and the Oilers were pushed to the brink, falling behind 3-0 in the best-of-seven series. It was the latest bounce back effort for the 25-year-old Edmonton native who was benched earlier in the playoffs. Skinner more than volume has made timely saves to keep the final going.

Knoblauch, Oilers successfully challenge for offsides, wiping out apparent Panthers goal

Edmonton Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch and his staff successfully challenged a goal by the Florida Panthers at a crucial juncture of Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. The offside challenge took a goal by Aleksander Barkov off the board 10 seconds after Adam Henrique scored to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead. Officials in consultation with the NHL's situation room in Toronto found Sam Reinhart was in the zone maybe an inch before Barkov carried it in. The sellout crowd of over 18,000 roared when Chris Rooney announced that the play was offside and waved off the goal.
